Matt Hill is an award-winning Australian artist who has a passion for creating unique and mesmerising sculptures from corten steel.

A carpenter by trade, Matt has harnessed his knowledge of architectural and rendering software to create eye-catching pieces that are not bound by size or design limitations.

His signature works include large-scale metal animals and captivating stratified spheres that light up at night.

Matt loves experimenting with geometric shapes and patterns and has become a master of creating 3D pieces from 2D planes.

Since his very first sculpture won ‘Best Small Sculpture’ at the Albert Park Art Exhibition in Melbourne in 2013, Matt has been invited to be the feature artist at numerous art exhibitions.

He has been commissioned to supply sculptures for hotels in Japan and has won several awards, including back-to-back accolades at the prestigious Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show in 2017 and 2018. His pair of elephant sculptures, Ellie and Billy, collected the ‘People’s Choice Award’ in 2017, while the following year he took home first prize in the show’s ‘Estate’ category for his collection of kangaroos.

In 2017, he was honoured to be one of only six artists in the world invited to the Czech Republic, where he fabricated a life-sized rhino sculpture to be permanently fixed in the city of Mlada Boleslav.

In 2018, he donated a similar piece to the Australian Rhino Project, a conservation initiative to protect the species.

Matt is always on the lookout for a fresh challenge and enjoys making the seemingly impossible possible.

He loves creating one-off pieces and welcomes commissions. With his creative talent and grand imagination, there is no limit to what he can achieve.
